Royal Thames has reached the Final for the past two years consecutively in the City Challenge competing for the prestigious Royal Thames Plate. This year, we’d like to go one better.

The City Challenge is a series of fleet racing regattas taking place between May and July with racing in each series taking place on a weekly basis. There are five evenings in each series, plus a final. The date for this has not yet been decided, but it will be either a Tuesday or Thursday evening during the week beginning 21^st July, or it will be on Saturday 26^th July.

Heat 1 Tuesdays – 6^th May to 1^st July 2008
Heat 2 Thursdays – 8^th May to 3^rd July 2008
Heat 3 Tuesdays – 13^th May to 8^th July 2008
Heat 4 Thursdays – 29^th May to 17^th July 2008

The top two from each series 1-4 will contest the final.

Racing will commence at 7pm on each evening, so you should plan to be there by 6.15pm to get out to the boat and get it rigged. There will be three races each evening. A team of 4 or 5 is required for each evening.

At the moment, an RTYC team has been entered into Heat 3. If there is enough enthusiasm, a further team can be entered, probably into Heat 4.

This is a fun and competitive event and provides an excellent evenings racing as well as a chance to socialise afterwards at the Novotel bar.

The cost for each regatta will be divided by the crew taking part. The cost per evening will be £40 per person.
